VideoLAN has launched a new version of its famous multimedia player. Is about VLC 3.0.7, a seventh maintenance version of the series 3 of the player that comes with some novelty, but whose launch has more to do with the correction of errors. This is how I saw it in the Windows version, where the first thing that appears in the notice window that there is a new version is a text that speaks of a total of 42 security fixes.
As for other types of functions, VLC 3.0.7 comes with a improved support for playing MP4 files and better management of Blu-ray menus. Speaking of support, this new version has also improved the Chromecast and Blu-ray in general. The rest of the changes included in this version can be read after the cut.
Other changes included in VLC 3.0.7
- DirectSound drainage solution.
- The scripts for YouTube, Dailymotion, Vimeo and Soundcloud have been updated.
- Improved the management when reproducing invalid articles when having the loop function activated.
At the moment, VLC 3.0.7 is already available as a Snap package and we can install it by opening a terminal and typing the following command:
sudo snap install vlc
Other options are install unofficial VLC repository or wait for the new version to be uploaded to the official repositories. Considering that the repository is not official and that the Snap package has an image that leaves a lot to be desired, I would recommend waiting for the APT version to be updated. If you want to install it from the unofficial repository, in the terminal we will write the following:
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:jonathonf/vlc-3 sudo apt update && sudo apt install vlc
VLC will take a huge leap in quality with the release of VLC 4. VideoLAN will introduce the first makeover in a long time, something that we will also see in the multimedia library. I have yet to test it extensively, but if it shows well-organized album art, it will probably become my default music player. In any case, the latest version of the Media player that continues to improve what seems unbeatable is already here.
With that ppa can I install on Ubuntu 16.04?
