VLC 3.0.17 arrives with better streaming playback of AV1 and VP9 live, among another group of improvements that do not make us forget about v4.0 that was announced more than two years ago

VLC 3.0.17

Responding to one question we asked at the end of last year, no, VLC 4.0 will not arrive in 2021. More than anything because we have already entered 2022, and the fourth major update of the VideoLan player is not yet available. It was announced a long, long time ago, and many of us want to be able to use that VideoLan v4, but surely the wait is worth it. While we wait, its developers continue to release point updates to series 3, such as the VLC 3.0.17 which is available from today March 7.

But no, the launch is not yet official. Whether Can download VLC 3.0.17 from your server, available here, but they haven't published the notes for this release yet. On the official website Vetinari v3.0.16 continues to appear as the most updated version, but they will soon publish by all possible means that there is a new update available. Of course, one of the 3.0.x branch that still maintains the usual design.

Some of the new features of VLC 3.0.17

  • Support for DTS-HD LBR, for the new FOURCC decoders for AV1, E-AC3 and GeoVision, for videos in DAV format, mapping of WebP images and uncompressed audio in MP4 files.
