Vivaldi now supports pinning tab groups and includes a new panel for Mastodon

Vivaldi 5.6 with Mastodon

Accustomed to Jon von Tetzchner starting his articles about his browser with an outstanding novelty such as the previous version task pane, his article on the launch of Vivaldi 5.6 it can be a bit strange. good part of him they have dedicated it to Mastodon, the social network that has been in fashion since Elon Musk bought Twitter. Vivaldi supports it for being open source, among other things, but I don't think the inclusion of a panel for a social network is something to open the news of a new release.

For me, this Mastodon “zero-comma” has importance. From now on the added panel will appear to see the news of the project. And it is that Vivaldi has its own server that can be accessed with a Vivaldi Social account, very different from what other projects have done that have limited themselves to opening a server, and sometimes not even that. Leaving this aside, we move on to what really matters, which are the rest of the news.

What's new in Vivaldi 5.6

  • Ability to pin tab stacks. Until now you could only pin single tabs.
  • Improved settings page. As of 5.6 it will have a retouched design that will be especially noticeable in the colors on the left side.
  • Ability to mix panel buttons with web panels, move extensions to panel bar, move settings to another bar and much more. Until I update I don't know how this will work, but I just need to be able to reorder the web panels, and it looks like it will be possible.
  • New You.com search engine. It has its lights and its shadows. It is a private search engine, but I have read that at the moment it gives problems with the registry, that it asks for things that cause concern.

Vivaldi 5.6 It is now available since official website, and soon the update should appear in the repository that is added after the first installation on operating systems such as Ubuntu.
