Vivaldi now lets you mute panels, customize rocker gestures, and keeps improving mail

Vivaldi 5.4 allows you to mute panels

After introducing the functions of mail, calendar and RSS feed reader, it seems that the changes introduced in this browser with the name of music history are less important. Today, the CEO of the project has announced the launch of Vivaldi 5.4, the first major version since its summer break, and it has done so by mentioning a couple of useful things in its headline, to which it has also added that they continue to improve that 3-in-1 that they introduced in Vivaldi 4.0.

The first thing that Jon von Tetzchner mentions is that now we can silence the web panels, those “mini-apps” that can be pinned to the left. They can be muted the same way we mute tabs, which makes things easier. It also highlights that rocker gestures can be customized. These gestures are the ones that are made if we first press one mouse button and then the other, and until now they were reserved for moving back/forward.

Other changes from Vivaldi 5.4

  • Possibility of copying and sharing a link of the selected item. Since I haven't installed Vivaldi 5.4 yet, I can't say for sure how this works, if it always works or if there has to be a "target" link on the page, but von Tetzchner promises that we will be able to highlight something on a web page and share the link to that others see exactly what we want.
  • HTTPS over HTTP, which upgrades all connections to HTTPS. The option has to be activated from the settings, address bar, security.
  • The mail, calendar and RSS feed reader continue to be polished.
  • Ability to hide keywords from search engines in searches.
  • Ability to paste and go, currently with the shortcut Ctrl + Shift + V.
  • Chromium is now at 104.0.5112.83.
  • Complete list of changes to the release note.

Vivaldi 5.4 available for a few hours, and it can now be installed on those Linux distributions that add the official repository after the first installation. It will arrive in other distributions in the next few hours.
