Vivaldi 6.8 introduces Mail 2.0 and shows the consumption of each tab in real time

Vivaldi 6.8

The company behind the browser with the V logo launched a new version of it this morning. What can already be downloaded, at least on macOS, Windows and the official repository for Debian/Ubuntu, is Vivaldi 6.8. Among the new features, one stands out above all: Mail 2.0. In the fourth version from Vivaldi added an option that allowed us to consult our digital correspondence without having to go through their website, and the improvements that this installment brings are great enough that they are already talking about the second version of the function.

Email 2.0 It greatly modifies the user experience. The first thing is that they have included prefetching, which downloads part of the email and allows you to see, in addition to the headline, several lines of its content. In this version, by default it will do this on emails from the last 30 days, a period that can be changed, obviously. Also, it can be a good idea if the team is low-resource because we will eliminate part of the load.

Another benefit of this prefetch is that it will allow us to search emails that we have not yet opened. Suppose we have thousands in our mailbox, we know there is something specific but we have not opened it yet. Prefetching allows us to also find those emails.

What personally catches my attention the most about Mail 2.0 is the fast answer. Now, when we want to respond to an email, we can do so from the one we received, in a window that appears like a chat text box. This feature could be improved by allowing signatures to be added to these responses. As if all this were not enough, they have also added undo actions. actions that could get us into trouble.

Other new features in this version

  • In the tabs, it now shows the memory consumption along with the rest of the information it already showed before.
  • New animation on the “Take a break” button that simulates guided breathing.
  • Quick command for workspaces that allows you to create a workspace by selecting multiple tabs, opening the window (F2 o Ctrl+E by default) and typing “Create new workspace” (the phrase may vary).
  • New option that allows you to switch to an existing tab if you type something that matches it in the URL bar.
  • Ability to import Chrome extensions.
  • Improvements to the integrated blocker.
  • New languages: Georgian and Sinhalese, reaching a total of 55.
  • Complete list of changes in notes from this release, from where we have also taken the header image.

As we have already explained, Vivaldi 6.8 can now be downloaded from its official website and from the repository if it has been added after the first installation. In the next few hours it will also appear on Flathub.
