Oracle has released overnight today VirtualBox 7.0, the latest stable version of its software to install and use virtual machines of supported operating systems. In this sense, this update is the first stable one to officially support Windows 11, since said support arrived for the first time. in August, but made it to the beta version. It is something that is not mentioned in the release note, but it is not necessary, since they did say it last summer.
Despite bumping the number up from 6 to 7, Oracle says this is a maintenance update. The number change could be due to officially supports Windows 11, or any other detail such as some tweaks to the interface, but it is not a new version that includes outstanding new features, or at least not for the company that develops it.
Highlights of VirtualBox 7.0
- Initial support for virtual machines with full command line encryption.
- 3D support based on DXVK.
- Support for Secure Boot in EFI.
- Support for IOMMU devices.
- Support for TPM 1.2 and TPM 2.0 has been included.
