VirtualBox 6.0 has been officially released

Oracle has finished the development of the new version of VirtualBox, therefore you can now download VirtualBox 6.0 to test its new features and enhancements. It is the new generation of this series of cross-platform open source virtualization software, available for both Linux-type hots, as well as for MacOS and Windows, completely free of charge. Instead, it will let you virtualize many more operating systems as guests.

This new release or update is a major improvement compared to the previous version 5.x. Among the most notable changes that we see in VirtualBox 6.0 we have the support to export virtual machines from the Oracle Cloud infrastructure, therefore it is great news for all those who have this service in the cloud, and can now upload their own MVs from local. Also, there are a number of fixed bugs that were present in previous versions.

As if that's not enough, there is also support for Surround, that is, for the sound system for users of the new build of Windows 10, as well as support for Hyper-V on Windows hosts to offer better performance, something that is not affects for Linux distributions, but that is interesting to note. What does affect Linux, like the rest of the platforms, are the revisions that have been made to the UI, now being much more intuitive, simple and with notable graphical improvements.

Certainly, VirtualBox was already a very simple program, but these changes are appreciated, since now there is a file manager to control and make copies on both the guest and the host. Likewise, for Linux 4.20, other improvements have been implemented to make it work in a better way. For example, we now have 3D graphics supported for Windows guests, 3D VMSVGA emulation also for Solaris and Linux guests, initial support for macOS guests, etc.

Hello, I would like to ask you a question as someone who does not understand much about very technical issues, but according to what I could see on the network, some W programs that use OpenGL (such as SketchUp in particular) could NOT be made to work, but the article reads the following sentence: «… For example, we now have 3D graphics supported for Windows guests…».
Does that mean a breakthrough in that sense? I installed Sketchup 2018 several times in VirtualBox inside Ubuntu and it did not work because of the OpenGL issue.
Thank you very much for so much information and so many teachings that we always find here.
