VeltOS is a relatively short-lived Linux distribution. To be honest, it is a distribution that has not yet been released in stable version but only a technical preview is available.
This distribution is based on the operating system ArchLinux, which we talked about a few days ago due to its new version. Being based on ArchLinux allows it to be developed with a very solid working base, which helps a lot since VeltOS is 100% developed by the community.
This operating system, tries to pull versatility and simplicity, to make as they say a system developed by and for the user. VeltOS has the Budgie desk with Numix theme and lots of popular apps like LibreOffice pre-installed.
It also has Gnome 3.16 pre-packaged packages And according to them they don't have any bloatware or leftover applications, counting only on what you need.
The way to develop the application is quite peculiar, as I said before, it is developed by the community 100%. Not happy with that, they allow the community itself vote for everything what unfolds, being the most voted what will come out in the final version of the VeltOS.
Being based on ArchLinux, it will be an operating system that will require few minimum system requirements. However, for now is only available for 64-bit architectures, therefore, at the moment it will not be suitable for resuscitating old computers, which ArchLinux can do
To download the Technical Preview we are going to go to VeltOS home page. The operating system is available only for 64-bit platforms and it can be downloaded either through Torrent or through GitHub. Remember that it is only a Preview and therefore it can have many security flaws and bugs, being a system not very suitable for development environments.
