Ultracopier a multiplatform file copy software

Ultracopier is file copy software licensed under GPL v3, available for various systems. Ultracopy it's a great option that replaces your file manager's copy of the file and with this it allows the management of the list of copies, the user as well as the recovery in case of error, as well as the management of errors and collisions.

This can be considered an alternative to Teracopy which can be used on Linux. Ultracopier is free (although it also has a paid version) and open source software licensed under GPL3 that acts as a replacement for file copy dialogs.

Among its main characteristics are:

  • It is a cross-platform application available for the main operating systems, that is, Linux, Microsoft Windows, MacOS.
  • Available for 32-bit and 64-bit operating systems.
  • You can edit the list of files and directories copied during data copying or moving.
  • Pause and resume data transfer during data copy.
  • It provides information about the copy speed, data already copied, data remaining, and you can also set limitations for the data copy speed.
  • At some point it happens when data copying stops when an error occurs, but you can resume data copying where it left off.
  • Rename files and directories during data copy.
  • You can omit any data during the copy.
  • You can get more features by installing available plugins.

About Ultracopier 2

Today Ultracopier is in its version 2 and it highlights the transition from Qt to C. Whereby the transition from Qt to C does not suffer from the various never-corrected errors and limitations of Qt. The adaptation of the platform for better performance and error management is also highlighted.

Thereby, we went from a generic engine to an engine for each operating system whose internal data, mode of access to files and folders, are specific. This enables better management of disk, file system, and operating system errors, as well as a full range of file access (asynchronous and synchronous, classic or broadcast). With the new engine, performance is three times higher in some cases.

Another change of this version 2 is in the paid license of Ultracopier, Since version 1 is not compatible with version 2, because version 1 has been compatible for many years. This will fund a faster advance to version 2.

In the new default interface, no information has been removed; the interface has just been rearranged.

Furthermore, other information has been added, such as speed by file size. Everyone has their vision of the best interface (content, masking, priority…), the two interfaces that remain maintained must satisfy the highest number, the other interfaces were never used. You are, of course, free to propose your interfaces.

Finally, if some think that the advantage of this type of software is to have more performance, this is only part of its characteristics. Besides that the old engine is still available as an add-on.

After installing, you can see that a floppy icon appeared on your taskbar by clicking on that icon, A menu with different options will be shown, within which the ones that interest us are "Add copy / move".

Here you will get 3 more options i.e

  • Add copy: to copy the data.
  • Add transfer - to transfer data.
  • Add movement: to move data.

You can select the appropriate option according to your need, here a new window will be displayed which is quite intuitive, since we select what we are going to copy or move and where.
