Several days ago the launch of the entire xbuntus family was announced which come with various changes where in some flavors the novelties are few, while in others the changes are significant for the distribution. And it is that within the most important changes within the official Ubuntu flavors we will not only be able to find the already known news of Ubuntu 21.04, but also the pertinent updates of the packages of these.

In this case we will talk about Ubuntu Budgie 21.04, of which I am sure that many of our readers are already using it, although for those who are still unaware of this flavor of Ubuntu that makes use of the budgie desktop environment, I will tell you a little about the new version released.

What's new in Ubuntu Budgie 21.04?

In this new version that It is presented from the distribution as the main novelty not related to what is already known from Ubuntu 21.04, it is the new Budgie desktop version 10.5.2 that is compatible with the GNOME 3.36 and 3.38 stack components Even though it is mentioned that there are already some Gnome "40" applications in the repository, not all of them are compatible since it must have been compiled with GTK-4, and make use of a compatible theme, since most of the themes GTK are only supported by GTK-3 and GTK-2 at this time.

In addition, a new implementation of the ability to place icons on the desktop has been proposed, which replaced the previous implementation based on the Nautilus file manager and comes in the form of a separate Budgie Desktop View component, which can be integrated not only with Budgie Desktop, but also with other desktops. In addition, it offers the option of running programs from the desktop with one or two clicks.

Other changes that stand out in the new version is in Shuffler in which Layouts interface was added to group and launch multiple applications at once, and the ability to lock the position and size of the application window has been implemented and new applet budgie-clipboard-applet (clipboard management) and budgie-analogue-applet ( analog clock) the desktop theme has been updated with a default dark theme. Budgie Welcome offers a tab-based interface for browsing through themes.

As well highlights new builds added for Raspberry Pi 4 and 400 in which a configuration tool called "Budgie ARM Tweak Tool" is added with which basically all the changes related to the management of the board's resources will be made.

On the other hand, the improvements made to Budgie Welcome, in which themes and layouts now display a tab-like interface, in addition to the fact that in the browser selection we can already find Brave as an option.

Nones that it is the biggest release ever disappointed, but in general it works well and at the desktop level the news is nktan (although it does not change our lives). I have tested it in VM and as soon as I can I will update my production laptop. For now I won't do it until the Nextcloud client works on Ubuntu 21.04. For me it is crucial (it is the cloud of work) and, although I could survive with the appimage, it is not worth it to me to walk with workarounds. The new version of Nextcloud is expected shortly, so be patient.
