Ubuntu 23.04 Lunar Lobster releases new installer. That's right (screenshots)

Ubuntu 23.04 Installer

Yes. Responding to my partner Diego, already in December it is more than confirmed that Ubuntu 23.04 will have the code name of Lunar Lobster (lunar lobster). But even in December, much remains to be known. It's supposed to be using GNOME 44, as Canonical usually pushes their desktop version up with every release and Kinetic Kudu uses GNOME 43. It is also believed to be running Linux 6.2, scheduled for late February/early March. Also, there will be another change that we will see for at least 10 minutes on a powerful team.

And what is it that will give us so much time to see it? Your new installer. It's been a couple of years since they introduced a Subiquity-based version of your installer and written in Flutter, and it looks like Ubuntu 23.04 will be the first version to have it available. Until now it could be tested and used, but special images had to be obtained. Since the last Daily Build, we can already see and use the new one in the "normal" images.

Gallery with the installation process of Ubuntu 23.03

Subiquity has been the installer for the Server version for a long time. One of the main features is that it is no longer based on the Debian installer (more information). And as for how it looks, here is a gallery with screenshots of the entire process:

It seems important to me to mention a detail: now, the window for "Try or install" the operating system appears after choosing the language. Also that at the time of writing this article the system language is not changed to Spanish, and we must go to "Settings", change the language, log out and log back in if we want to see it in our language. I like to think that this will change in April, which I'm sure it will. Another detail that has caught my attention is that this installer does allow you to choose "ubuntu" as the computer name, something that was not possible until yesterday.

If nothing happens, this will be the installer that Ubuntu will use from now on until further notice. Anyone who wants to try it can do so by downloading the ISO that is available at this link.

I tried it at the time in a Daily Canary (In which they include the things they want to try, but are not going to be part of the new version) and I did not like it. Of course she was at a very early stage.
If I were Canonical I wouldn't waste time reinventing the wheel and would adopt Calamares which works great on Kubuntu and Ubuntu Studio.
By the way, I just saw that there is no Canary version for Lunar Lobster. Maybe they'll put it later.
