Evernote is a cross-platform application both computers and smartphones, this relies on organizing personal information through the use of notes, the attractiveness of the application is not this but that all the notes, photos, documents, audio files and web pages saved in one of the versions of Evernote are automatically synchronized in the other platforms that the user uses.
Also It has a version for companies which further enhances the application making it an excellent tool for sharing both notebooks and corporate documentation.
Being a fairly popular application, it is logical that you meet unofficial clients of the application with the ability to have extra functions that the official application does not include, one of these is Tusk.
Tusk is an unofficial Evernote client, this is open source and created from electron technology, Tusk has many features that allow Linux users to fully enjoy all the benefits that Evernote offers us.
Tusk It has a fairly intuitive interface and a minimalist design Among which it combines light and dark themes, it also has a navigation mode that does not need the mouse for its operation.
Among the most outstanding features of Tusk we highlight:
Features in Tusk
Theme customization: light, dark and black themes.
Focus mode- An elegant way to write without distractions.
Compact mode: Tusk has a responsive window UI.
Keyboard shortcuts- As expected, Tusk supports keyboard shortcuts for sticky note navigation and Markdown input.
Note navigation: Allow seamless navigation between your notes by pressing Cmd / Ctrl Tab / Cmd / Ctrl Shift Tab or jump directly to a specific note using Cmd / Ctrl 1 - 9
Export of notes: Allows you to export the notes to other formats such as pdf
Currently the application is in version 2.0 and the development team is working on improvements and bug fixes to improve it.
How to install Tusk?
As I mentioned, the application is multiplatform by making use of electron for its operation even though we can download the packages directly from your git and perform the installation using the packages indicated for your distribution.
Debian / Ubuntu and derivatives
sudo dpkg -i Tusk*.deb
Fedora and derivatives
sudo rpm -i tusk*.rpm
Or we can also install directly using the app image with the following command:
chmod a+x tusk-0.2.0-linux-x86_64.AppImage ./ tusk-0.2.0-linux-x86_64.AppImage
And with this we can begin to use the application in our system. As I mentioned, the application does not use the mouse so it has several keyboard shortcuts that you can find here.
I leave you some of them:
Toggle window menu | Alt |
Back to notes | I |
Delete note | Delete |
Toggle dark theme | Cmd / Ctrl D |
New note | Cmd / Ctrl N |
Add shortcut | Cmd / Ctrl S |
Bold text | Cmd / Ctrl B |

Tusk also allows us to connect our Yinxiang account (Chinese version of Evernote) and work in sync with our notes.
Now if you don't like working with commands for editing notes, Tusk allows editing of the text using codes, which are the following:
Description Syntax
Bold text ** Bold **
Italic text * Italic *
Underline the text !! Highlight !!
Strikethrough text ~~ Strikethrough ~~
Bulleted list * Bulleted list
Numbered list 1. Numbered list
Toggle checkbox []

Although there are many unofficial Evernote clients out there, Tusk is an app worth trying.
Love it. It is the best Evernote client I have ever tried! But there is no way to apply the different themes to it. Any ideas?
