How to transform your Android into a bootable pendrive

Linux Bootable USB Pendrive

The installation of a new distribution is something very simple and economical if we have a pendrive. The arrival of USB memories has made it possible for us to install any Gnu / Linux distribution without having to buy a disk or a DVD for installation. Being able to erase and use as memory or simply for another distribution.

However, we don't always have a usb stick on hand and that can be a problem. For these cases there is the possibility of using an Android smartphone as a bootable pendrive and install our preferred distribution on any computer, all without breaking or damaging the smartphone.

For this we only need a smartphone with Android that is rooted, the Drive-Droid application, a USB cable and the ISO image of the Gnu / Linux distribution that we want to install. Once we have all this, we first have to make sure that the smartphone's battery is at its maximum charge. Then, we transfer the ISO image of the distribution to the memory of the smartphone.

Once we have all this, we go to the Play Store and we install the DriveDroid app, an app that transforms the memory of the smartphone into a bootable pendrive. Once we install the app, we run it and it will ask us root permissions, something typical in many apps. We grant it and then a message will appear in English asking us for an ISO image of the distribution.

We look for it through the app's explorer. After which he will ask us what location do we want to give to the ISO image. For the moment it is enough that we say that it is the option of USB mass-storage. This will suffice. Now we have to connect the smartphone to the computer with the usb cable.

We restart the computer and make it load the bootable units first, so the load of the distribution that we have installed on the smartphone will appear, the mobile running Android as a bootable pendrive. This process is simple and practical since it will allow us to carry out as many Gnu / Linux distribution installations as we want.
