Tianhe-2 (also called Milky Way-2) is a supercomputer developed by the National University of Defense Technology of China (NUDT). The supercomputer is housed at the National Supercomputing Center in Guangzho, People's Republic of China. It currently has a throughput of 33,86 PFLOPS, with the possibility of extending to 54,9 PFLOPS, in other words, it can currently process 33.860.000.000.000.000 floating point operations per second.

Actually kylin it was initially based on FreeBSD, but a version supported on Linux later emerged.

Kylin Linux from Tianhe-2 has to endure and deal with enviable hardware. In the first place it owns 32.000 Intel Xeon microprocessors E5-2692 (based on the IvyBridge microarchitecture) with 12 cores each. These chips are accompanied by 48.000 Intel Xeon Phi 31S1P coprocessors and 1.375 TiB of RAM (a thousand used for the CPU and the rest for the coprocessors). Regarding storage and consumption, Tianhe-2 has 12.4 PB of storage capacity and a consumption of 17.6 MW. The entire equipment occupies about 720 square meters and has gone to the government for almost 300 million euros.
