There is an AppImage with WinRAR for Linux, in case you missed it and the archivers you know do not satisfy you

WinRAR in AppImage

When you are testing software, there is something that works for you and you are efficient with it, you stop looking. It has always been said: "better bad known than good unknown", and it is likely that many who only use their computer at a user level do not switch to Linux thinking just that. Or in comfort, I don't know. It is not always easy to change, and that is why there are options such as a WinRAR fully functional for Linux.

As you can see in the header screenshot, there I have a WinRAR window open in the KDE edition of Manjaro, where, it must be said, even the application icon appears. How is it possible? Well, the first thing to say is that it is a AppImage, a package "similar" to flatpak and snap in that they contain everything needed to function without relying on extra software, also known as dependencies.

This WinRAR AppImage works with WINE

The secret for this to be possible is not difficult to guess: use WINE. But he has something that does not allow him to be perfect: he is in Portuguese and it seems that the language cannot be changed. I understand all the options, but it is something that must be taken into account. the developer has published it on his YouTube channel (direct link), where it also offers more AppImages as a Dragon Ball game for PC.

Logically, what WinRAR does can be done with many other software, as File Roller, Ark o PeaZip, among others, but they are not the original WinRAR. On the other hand, we can also install it with PlayOnLinux or directly from WINE, but the good thing about this version is that it is in an AppImage. Having options was never bad.

As you say, having options was never a bad thing, but downloading executable software (such as that AppImage) from private repositories (the "developer's" GDrive) I would never advise. You don't know what else goes in the "package".

However, download it from the official website, install it with Wine, and then add WinRAR as a service to Dolphin (see https://www.appimagehub.com/p/998397/) seems more prudent to me, for those who have «Winrarera» nostalgia. See the first comment on that link, where it explains what needs to be done to make it work in Plasma.

      thanks for the explanation

What's the point of skipping Linux if we're going to continue to prefer Windows applications, especially when there are so many compression or decompression choices for Linux? This post only encourages bad practices and mediocrity.
