The new KDE Applications 20.08 update is here and these are its changes

The launch of cumulative update August KDE Applications (20.08/XNUMX) developed by the KDE project. In total, as part of the update, the new versions of 216 programs, libraries and plugins of the project were released.

For those who are still unfamiliar with KDE Applications, we can tell you that these are a set of compatible applications and libraries designed by the KDE community, which are mainly used in Linux-based operating systems, but mostly of these applications are cross-platform and are released on a common launcher.

What's new in KDE Applications 20.08

In this new version of KDE Applications 20.08 some major changes were made to the file manager "Dolphin", since now displays thumbnails of files in 3MF format with models for 3D printing, it also has the ability to preview thumbnails of files and directories located on encrypted file systems, like Plasma Vault, when caching thumbnails directly inside the encrypted file system, and if this file system is not writable, then without caching versions.

In addition, Dolphin now truncates the end of the long name, but keep the extension for easy identification of the file type. The location is saved in the file system when the file manager is closed and restored when it is opened (this behavior can be changed in the settings in the Startup section).

As well the "simplified plug-in installation" is highlighted, which can now be installed in the "Get What's New" window without manual manipulations and without adding to the list of services.

Moreover, for the terminal emulator Console, in the contextual menu, has added to the clipboard the function of copying the full path to the file or directory the cursor points to, too added newline highlighting that appear when content scrolls fast.

In the context menu that is displayed when the mouse cursor is over the file name, it is now possible to open this file in the selected application. When displayed in split screen mode, title separation of displayed windows is provided and it offers the possibility to link color labels to tabs and to track the activity of the processes in the tabs.

At the terminal Yakuake appearing on the F12 key, work on Wayland controlled settings has been improved, The ability to configure all hotkeys has been added and the terminal startup prompt is displayed in the systray.

DigiKam 7.0 has a completely redesigned system to classify faces in photos, which allows you to identify and recognize faces in photos and tag them automatically. You can find an overview of the changes in a separate announcement.

In the text editor of Kate, through the "Open Recent" menu, it is possible to show not just recently opened files via file open dialog, but also those transferred to Kate from the command line and other sourcess. The tab bar style has been aligned with other KDE applications.

Elisa now has the ability to display all genres, musicians, or albums in the sidebar. The playlist now shows the progress of the current song instead. The top panel adapts to the size of the window and the choice of portrait or landscape modes.

Okular Document Viewer solves issues with item placement Print and Print Preview in the menus.

The image viewer of Gwenview keeps the size of the last cropping area to speed up cropping of multiple typical images of the same size.
