The KDE edition of Manjaro will stay for a while in Plasma 5.24 for no apparent reason

Manjaro stays a while in Plasma 5.24

"Apparent". For no apparent reason. plasma 5.25 I arrive in mid-June, and anyone on a Rolling Release development model distribution expects to have the latest very soon. But Manjaro has another philosophy. Although some do not like to hear it, there are people who say that it is a "semi-Rolling Release" distribution, that is, Rolling Release, but not much. The truth is that the 100% Rolling Release branch is Unstable, while Testing prepares things for Stable.

The best example of this we had when GNOME 40 and GTK4 arrived. Canonical did not include GNOME 40 when it was due, and did so to improve stability and reliability. Manjaro did a bit of the same thing: he stayed weeks (or months) on GNOME 3.38, and didn't upgrade to v40 until they were sure everything was going decently. plasma 5.25 It's not quite as big of a jump as GNOME 40, so it's a bit surprising that it hasn't even made it to the Testing branch yet.

Manjaro 22 will make the jump to Plasma 5.25

In the Manjaro forum not everyone is happy. As we can read in this thread, he asks with an angry emoji: «Still no KDE 5.25 updates?«. The developers' response does not calm things down: first it is said that tomorrow Plasma 11 will arrive on July 5.24.6 to the KDE edition, while 5.25.3 will come to the Unstable branch.

There are users who have switched to Unstable branch to be able to use the latest version of Plasma, and it is what is recommended, since, according to the project, Manjaro will stay months in 5.24:

Also within the release team and KDE ISO maintainers we discussed this when 5.25 is ready for us. It will be part of Manjaro version 22.0, which may be out in several months. Until then, we'll keep 5.24, since we shipped it with the Ruah version. Those who really want the latest and greatest can always switch to Unstable or even get involved in Manjaro development.

The previous explanation does not help the most anxious to remain calm. They're not saying that Plasma 5.25 is unstable or anything like that; they just say that 5.25 will be part of v22.0 of Manjaro, as if they were holding it back to use it as a starter when the time came. For this reason, there are users who say that they are falling asleep, that in "several months" Plasma 5.26 will be available... and there are also people who assure that Plasma 5.25 is not as good as it should be.

So, for those who prefer the stable branch and avoid surprises, be patient. It's not known if it's because of the headline or because there are problems, but the Manjaro KDE edition developer team has decided to delay things. For those who want the latest before, they recommend the Unstable version.
