The 5 office applications that we must have in our Gnu / Linux distribution

Office with laptop

Although many want Linux to stand out in the world of video games, it is true that there are other worlds or areas in which Linux can stand out or currently stands out. The world of the office or the world of work is one of them. More and more users see how Linux is not very different from Windows in these aspects and in many cases Linux is preferable for its high security and ease of use.

Next we are going to tell you 5 applications that we should have in our Gnu / Linux if we want to use it in an office or professionally. There are 5 applications that we can find and install through the official repositories of any distribution.

LibreOffice

The most famous office suite is present in many distributions but there are still distributions that do not use LibreOffice and therefore many users do not finish knowing the full power of this office suite. LibreOffice allows us to change the appearance of its menus, something interesting for those who come from Microsoft Office with Ribbon.

uLauncher

An application launcher can help us to be more effective and even faster when opening one or several applications at the same time. In this case I recommend uLauncher, a very popular application launcher and available in many distributions. But if we have or use Plasma, we can choose to use the desktop launcher, skipping the uLauncher installation, but knowing that such a tool exists and will help us a lot in office work.

Chrome

The browser of Google has become quite an interesting tool for office users. Not only is it a powerful web browser but it can also help us create shortcuts to web applications that we can use as applets. Something that other web browsers don't allow yet. Chrome can be downloaded from the official Google website but in the distribution repositories we have Chromium, a free alternative and more up-to-date than Chrome.

Safe eye

Office work involves working many hours in front of the monitor, so it is important to have software that helps us rest our eyes so that working hours do not take a toll on our eyes. Safe Eye is available in many distributions but if you don't have it for your distribution, you can get it from this link.

dropbox

A virtual hard disk is something important, not only for its advantages but also for security features offered by some programs. The best of these virtual hard drives is Dropbox, a disk that works very well on Gnu / Linux and that it will be installed as one more application of our distribution. Thanks to Dropbox programNot only can we have all the files on the virtual hard drive but we can also connect the rest of the applications with Dropbox, being a great alternative to backup copies.

Conclusion

These are the basic and essential applications, but of course, there are more applications that we will need depending on the objectives of the office. This way, an office or architecture studio will not need the same programs as an office of a car dealership. This customization will depend on each one, but in all cases we will need the previous programs.

I would also include the document viewer pdf lectern and GIMP (in case you have to retouch an image).

In Plasma there is Okular as a document viewer, and as a launcher you can put an empty panel and configure it as you want. And as the first comment I would also add Gimp and also Simple Scan, an almost perfect program for scanning documents, you can even scan double-sided if the printer allows it.
