Top 5 Open Source Minecraft Alternatives

Alternatives to Minecraft

Minecraft It is a game that you all already know. It was presented with everything against him, quite depressing graphics compared to the video games of modern generations. But far from being a total failure, it became a success. The reason is the possibilities it presents for the game and its flexibility. It seems that this attracts more and more players who have seen in this video game one of the best of the last decade. Other developers have wanted to imitate this essence of Minecraft and have released open source clones that can be good alternatives if we do not like the Minecraft philosophy at all or we simply want something free and different ...

Well, although there are more open source alternatives and some other proprietary ones, we are going to present in this article only 5 of them which I think are the most remarkable that and can be the most entertaining for many of you. Well, the chosen list is the following, and surely some of them already sound familiar to you since in LxA we have dedicated other articles to them:

  1. Twink: it is an open source Minecraft clone that is presented as one of the most complete of the existing ones. An infinite world of possibilities to build with our blocks and a good graphic engine complete its best virtues. It also has support for multiplayer and other subgames and functionalities such as terrain generators and different biomes. Its interface is very friendly and it has an API to create mods and extend its capabilities.
  2. teralogy: It's a nice game with quite "realistic" graphics if you can define it that way. It was implemented as an experiment for map creation at the beginning and has now become a full game with multiplayer capabilities.
  3. Truecraft: It is an original title that comes as an implementation of Minecraft instead of a simple clone. It is compatible with the official Minecraft servers, therefore it can be a good option for those who are looking for more than a clone.
  4. voxel.js: simple but effective, it is another rare alternative but that many may like. It is implemented with JavaScript and HTML technology to play from a web, with WebGL support for graphics.
  5. free miner- A good free and open source Minecraft alternative inspired by Minecraft and based on Minetest. It arises precisely as a fork of this other and according to its authors makes the game more fun with some improvements.

You know, if you know more alternatives, which as I say there are (Lamecarft, Manic Digger, Craft, Voxelands ...), or you like to contribute something else, don't forget leave your comment...

As similar as they are, they are boring because it does not have a destination (in minecraft it is the Enderdragon). They also don't have mobs, there is no redstone (you can make a lot of farms), or command blocks (to make adventure worlds). There is no community in Spanish ... etc

That's why I prefer the original (now from Microsoft). Although I am a defender of free software, I have my hard drive exclusively for proprietary software (games) and I do not regret it.
