System76 Galago Pro: the "MacBook Pro" with Linux

System76 Galago Pro

A few days ago we made a ranking on laptops with pre-installed Linux, in them we talked about brands such as UAV and SlimBook, both Spanish, as well as others like Dell and also System76, one of the pioneers in assembling and selling computers without pre-installed Microsoft Windows systems and with Linux distributions as you already know. Well, now it is the turn of another of its products that could be an alternative to Apple's MacBook Pro.

I speak of galago-pro, a laptop from the firm System76 that we are going to analyze right now. The equipment costs about $ 1328, and at first glance it seems that it has similarities with respect to the Apple product, since the finish does not seem bad and it has a quite acceptable design. But is it what it seems? Well, the truth is that the finish is aluminum, and its screen is HiDPI, so we started well. Now, there are some details that need to be improved, that although it is not a plastic laptop with bad finishes, probably if you are used to the Apple world you will miss some details such as the Touch Bar ...

And what does it keep inside? Well, for that price you better save something good, since it is not cheap equipment as you can see. However, it is cheaper if we compare it with exclusive Apple products ... Well, the hardware What it has is a very interesting 13,3 ″ HiDPI 3200 × 1800 screen, as well as a 7th Gen Intel Core i7500 7U processor (Kaby Lake). It has 8GB of dual-chanel DD4 at 2133Mhz, and a 960GB Samsung 250 EVO NVMe SSD to offer good data storage performance.

So far quite good, in addition to having USB 3.1, Thunderbolt, SD card reader, etc. But I see some disadvantages or disadvantages, not if we compare it with the product with which we are trying to do it, but with the majority of laptops from other brands. And, although the dimensions are surprisingly only a few millimeters larger and only a few grams heavier, which is quite surprising in a positive way, there is something that is the greatest of the weak points that I find, its GPU, a Intel HD Graphics 620 that cannot compete with the dedicated graphics cards of AMD and NVIDIA and neither with the integrated ones of AMD in their APUs ...

It is exactly the same as the Spanish Slimbook Pro: same chassis and same components.
At least it is what it seems.
