Support for openSUSE Leap 42.3 extends until June 30, 2019

openSUSE Leap 42.2

Those responsible for the OpenSUSE Project announced this week that extend support for OpenSUSE Leap 42.3 for an additional six months to allow more users to upgrade to the latest version of openSUSE Leap 15.

Released on July 26, 2017, the openSUSE Leap 42.3 operating system is based on SUSE Linux Enterprise 12 service Pack 3 and contains Linux Kernel 4.4 with extended support. As is customary in OpenSUSE 42 versions, OpenSUSE 42.3 would only have 18 months of support, ending its cycle in January 2019.

However, both the openSUSE Project and the SUSE company decided Give users more time to update to the latest version of the OpenSUSE Leap 15 series, based on SUSE Linux Enterprise 15, for that they will continue to offer updates to openSUSE 42.3 for six more months.

openSUSE 42.3 will reach the end of its cycle on June 30, 2019

Therefore, openSUSE 42.3 and the openSUSE 42 series will reach the end of their cycle on June 30, 2019 instead of January. This will allow users more time to upgrade your installations to openSUSE Leap 15, which will have maintenance and security updates for a further 14 months, until November 2019.

The openSUSE Project recommends that openSUSE Leap 42 users use the extra support time to prepare to upgrade to the openSUSE Leap 15 series, which also includes a migration wizard for those who cannot upgrade in time.

Those who cannot upgrade their productivity servers to a higher version can purchase an SLE subscription to get more support timeOf course, this subscription has a cost.
