SuperX OS, a lightweight distro with highly customized KDE

Super X OS

The world of Linux distros always has very interesting things to show us, and it is that after all we are not only going to stay with Ubuntu, Debian, Fedora or Linux Mint (to mention some of the most important) but there are many options to adapt our team to all needs. Today we are going to talk about Super X OS, a distro that comes from the hand of a company called LibreSoft, with Ubuntu and Debian as a base and adding a very custom KDE desktop.

It is a distro that launches new versions every 10 months, trying to respect that to stay updated, although with a schedule that is not strict as in the case of the 'big'. SuperX OS 3.0 "Grace" It was released a few weeks ago, and its performance and design are so good that it can be used by veterans in the Linux world without them encountering limitations, even if its main objective is to be a alternative for those who come to this platform from Windows.

SuperX OS is a distro that has fairly modest minimum requirements, with only 1Ghz in terms of processor and 1GB of RAM, something that certainly cannot compete with other minimalist distros such as Puppy Linux but is well oriented to the user who wants an attractive desktop without penalizing the hardware. The thing is comes with KDE 4.13.3, an option that would never be in the minds of the creators of a 'lightweight' list, and it is so well integrated and personalized that you hardly notice that we are using a heavy desktop: with a dark plasma theme and some tricks to optimize performance, for example the absence of Activity or the use of Grace, which compresses unused memory pages instead of sending them to the swap partition.

The SuperX OS installer allows us to install all proprietary drivers and codecs, something that of course is still essential to enjoy a Linux desktop without limitations. Another interesting touch of this distro is to include some Linux Mint customization and configuration tools, but adapted to SuperX OS in such a way that for example, MintSources becomes SuperX Sources. We talk about KDE desktop but it remains to mention some other of the components of this distro: Linux kernel 3.13, apt-fast (a kind of improved and faster Apt-get), Chromium, Firefox (the default browser), LibreOffice, GIMP, Minitube and VLC like video players, Telegram and much more.

Super X OS it can already be downloaded from SourceForge, with versions of 32 and 64 bits and in the case of this version 3.0 «Grace», with support until April 2019.

mmm how interesting, it can be a great choice for laptops and thus avoid a greater heating of the same and less use and noise of the fan. It can be great to use on those computers without giving up the power of kde and its applications.
