SuperTuxKart 1.4 arrives with extended support for macOS and several other improvements

Super Tux Kart 1.4

After a while of development and almost two weeks after the Release Candidate, we now have here a new version of one of the best car games that we can find on Linux. For the most gamers, it may not be a big deal, but it is if we take into account that it is multiplatform and free. What is available from today November 1 is Super Tux Kart 1.4And the news couldn't be better for those with a slightly older Mac.

The first thing mentioned in this release note is that it has been regained support for macOS 10.14 and earlier, reaching the support until Mavericks. It's a great extension of support, since OS X 10.9 was released about nine years ago and works on PCs from before 2009 (when I got my old iMac).

SuperTuxKart 1.4 improves soccer fields

The complete list of changes includes news such as test lap mode, the parachute powerup has been corrected, also the gyroscope on wall-type surfaces, the ARMv7 version has been activated in Windows and it is now prevented from activating other goal lines when the goal has already been scored. Regarding the graphics, it has been implemented HiDPI support in the SDL2 property and you can test Vulkan.

SuperTuxKart 1.4, which has arrived 13 months after the earlier version, it also includes some aesthetic improvements, such as Konqi has been updated, there is a new Godette car, Battle Island and cave tracks have been updated and other texture improvements, etc. The full list of changes is available from this link.

This racing game, and not just racing, is available in the official repositories of most Linux distributions, but for it to reach them we will still have to wait a little longer. It will come to Flathub sooner, but both the flatpak and snap packages are still not updated.
