SteamVR new Beta with improvements for Linux

Valve SteamVR

Valve has released Valve Index and once out, the well-known firm continues to make rapid improvements on its SteamVR, one of the most promising virtual reality products for Linux. Now a last Beta has been released that is already available and has interesting improvements for the virtual reality glasses and also some fixes that affect Linux. So good news.

Have made some improvements for SteamVR with changes in how games are launched from this virtual reality platform to reduce crashes, things have changed to avoid Error 308 at startup, automatic recovery has been added for firmware of Valve Index and HTC Vive Pro, as well as other fixed bugs that arose spontaneously in the Valve system and caused a shutdown.

SteamVR Input also has some changes. Regarding the news that directly affect Linux, you can find:

  • Fixing Index HMD which always reported that a firmware update was available.
  • Fixing the problem that reset SteamVR
  • Repair vrwebhelper crashing for the Steam client
  • Repair psychedelic colors in the Steam client caused by the exit of SteamVR.
  • Restart SteamVR Exit Prompt Repair and Restart Block
  • Various vrcompositor bugs fixed
  • Ioctl correction (GFEATURE)

As you can check they are problems, what made the experience when you were using SteamVR and Steam on your Linux distro, something nefarious. So now the execution will be less problematic. And of course, the work of Valve developers has not only been limited to Linux, they have also included other improvements for other platforms. I hope it continues like this and we have more news to comment on soon.

By the way, the software SC Controller and the Steam Controller driver have been updated as well. Lots of news from Valve, plus what I said about a possible release of an update to the Steam Controller...
