SteamOS 3.2 improves support for PipeWire, among other changes. A new version of the Steam Client has also arrived

Almost a month after Beta,Valve launched a few hours ago Steam OS 3.2. It is the most up-to-date version of the operating system for your console, although it is known that it will soon be able to be installed officially on all types of computers as well. Among its novelties, and I don't know why, the first on the list catches my attention, an improvement for the fan so that it better manages its work in certain scenarios.

Alongside SteamOS 3.2, Valve has also released a new version of your Steam client, that is, the usual Steam that is even installed by default in some Linux distributions. Below you have not one, but two lists of news: the first of the operating system, and the second of Steam Client.

SteamOS 3.2 Highlights

  • An OS controlled fan curve has been added to improve the experience in low usage scenarios, and adjust how the fan responds to different scenarios and temperatures. The old version of the fan curve is still available, and can be activated in Settings > System.
  • Added support for changing the screen refresh rate in-game. The refresh rate will automatically adjust to the desired option when entering and exiting the game.
  • There is a new slider in the Quick Access Menu > Performance Tab that allows you to choose a screen refresh rate between 40-60Hz.
  • The frame rate limit slider values ​​will update accordingly, and will include frame rate options of 1:1, 1:2, 1:4, or no limit.
  • Fixed an issue typing the € key with the Steam keyboard.
  • Performance HUD now shows a more accurate reading of VRAM used (was previously limited to 1G used).
  • Added more internal display resolution options for games to choose from.
  • Fixed gain scaling, resulting in higher maximum speaker volume, and eliminates white noise coming through the 3,5mm jack with some headphones.
  • Fixed PipeWire and Steam crashing when raising their thread priorities.
  • Fixed language dropdown in Warframe launcher.
  • The microSD card formatting process now performs a quick format.

Highlights of the Steam Client

  • Added a notification when the Steam Deck SSD has less than 2GB of free space left.
  • Joint Remote Play is now fully functional on the Steam Deck. Includes hosting and joining game sessions.
  • Added icons for gamepad and mouse commands that are displayed in the virtual menus of the game.
  • Fixed inability to connect to hidden wireless networks.
  • Added Saskatchewan time zone region.
  • Added the ability to close a window if the running application has more than one visible.
  • Added the ability to switch accounts from the power menu.
  • Improved the performance of Night Shift keyboard theme.
  • Added the ability to name controller layout commands.

Steam OS 3.2 It is now available for the Steam Deck, and the Steam Client will update automatically after launching it the next time.
