Steam Play with Proton 4.11-12 is out!

Steam play

Surely you already know the Steam Play client, a Steam client that is also available for GNU / Linux. This software allows you to access the Valve store, buy and download titles, manage them in your own title library, communicate with other players, etc. In addition, it has an online mode, and an offline one for those who do not like that this program is constantly connected.

Well, now Steam Play is in luck, since the new version of the available client has been launched with some interesting improvements and changes compared to the previous version. One of the most notable for linuxers is precisely the new Proton 4.11-12. You already know that Proton is an improved Valve implementation of Wine so that native Microsoft Windows games can run properly on your Linux. Therefore, you can buy the titles you like for Windows and with Steam Play + Proton, you can play without problems (in some cases).

With Proton 4.11-12, compatibility with Windows videogames is improved, and some problems or errors that may exist with certain titles in previous versions are corrected. With the help of DXVK, direct 3D graphics API 9/10/11 instructions are also being translated into instructions Vulkan so they can also run on Linux with this powerful open source graphical API. Among the improvements on this other project, you will see that the bugs that existed with GTA V have been solved.

Some patches have also been included for solve problems I had with the controller of the Xbox console with the Elex button, and the behavior of the mouse with IL-2 Sturmovik has been improved. Of course, there is new support for the OpenVR SDK virtual reality API, and much more. If you want to see the whole list of complete changes in Proton, you can see the changelog in this link.
