Soon we will have a smartwatch with Gnu / Linux thanks to the Jolla team

Jolla Smartwath

Although mobile devices have been around for a long time, the truth is that there are very few Gnu / Linux options for them. So far, smartphones are the ones that have several free projects officially and constantly. But other devices like tablets or smartwatches they still don't have a decent Gnu / Linux option. But it looks like this will change thanks to the Jolla team.

Jolla is a company that is based on Sailfish OS, its operating system that at the same time it is based on Gnu / Linux. To the point that this operating system can execute packages and programs that we have in our Gnu / Linux distribution.

Recently the team of Jolla has managed to port its operating system to a smartwatch. Bill sailfish OS port It works perfectly on the device even though it is not a version prepared for it. This does not mean that Jolla is going to launch its own smartwatch, but that It will create a rom to be able to install it on the smartwatches on the market.

Jolla's Sailfish OS has already been ported to a smartwatch although it is not stable yet

The portability project was born as a help to the Asteroid OS team, an operating system for smartwatches that uses the same base as Jolla, by helping it was possible to port such libraries and bases so that both Asteroid OS and Sailfish OS can work on these mobile devices.

But there are still things in this Sailfish OS port that don't work well in this project like the installation of extra programs and functions, something they are currently working on to launch a rom adapted to smartwatches.

In any case it seems that little by little these devices are being more general and also have their free optionsAlthough at the moment we do not have any smartwatch that runs Debian or Fedora. It would be interesting Do not you think?
