Scribus 1.5.3, the new version of the popular text editor is now available

Scribus

Just as Gimp or LibreOffice jumped to the rest of operating systems, Scribus also made the leap to the multiplatform world without ceasing to be free or Open Source. A new version of this popular text editor has recently been published that we can already get for our team, but it will not be the expected version.

The team has released Scribus 1.5.3, an intermediate version between the latest version and the future big version, Scribus 1.6. Nevertheless, Scribus 1.5.3 already raises interesting questions and changes.

The minimum requirements are one of the things that changes in this version. As of Scribus 1.5.3, the program will need Qt 5.5 libraries, not working with inferior libraries. The appearance of the program has also changed since some tabs and functions that were in the main window will now be in an auxiliary tab. This is the case of Text, a function that was inside the Properties tab.

Scribus 1.5.3 includes support for more than 500 languages with their alphabets

Although the most striking change of all is the inclusion of new text sources and the possibility of using languages in the texts that we create with Scribus. This is achieved thanks to the rewriting of functions and the inclusion of new fonts and scripting, making it possible to create texts in Arabic, Thai or Hindi. In total, Scribus 1.5.3 supports more than 500 languages, being the version of Scribus that has the most support.

Despite all this, the official Scribus website warns that it still has some bugs as it is not a highly tested version. The most anticipated version will be Scribus 1.6, so if we use Scribus professionally, it is recommended not to update. But if, on the other hand, you use the tool sporadically, the update is more than recommended as Scribus 1.5.3 prepares the user for Scribus 1.6. If it is not yet on your Gnu / Linux distribution, you can get Scribus 1.5.3 in the this link.
