Thanks to the RaspAnd distribution, we can run version 5.1 of Android Lollypop on our Raspberry Pi

RaspAnd is an operating system developed to work with the second version of Raspberry Pi (the quad core version with 1 GB of RAM) and that pallows running the full Android operating system(with Play Store included) on our little Raspberry ..

Actually, this system came on the market at the beginning of the year, however the developers are releasing new versions that they are bringing new functions and improvements in compatibility.

As for the news that the latest version brings, they are the following.

  • Android updated to version 5.1 Lollypop.
  • Full compatibility with the Play Store and Google Play services.
  • Version update of all pre-installed programs.

Additionally RaspAnd comes with various pre-packaged applications such as the WPS Office office suite, the WinZip compressor, Aptoide, a terminal emulator and other applications such as maps and testing applications, in addition to what is already pre-installed on any current Android 5.1.

I wish I could try it, but I am not going to do it mainly because it is a payment distribution worth 9 dollars and although it is a Linux distribution, I honestly do not want to pay for it to test. If you are interested in buying it, you have here the link to the Official Site thereof.

The truth is that this distribution is still a curious bet, especially for people who want to experiment with the Android system. some alternatives like Bluestacks software o this article  in which we explain what is necessary to run Android applications only with Google Chrome.

Also, if you want something similar to a Raspberry Pi but with Android Installed, you can opt for an android tv box which has a price and features similar to a Rasberry Pi 2. These boxes can be easily purchased on Ebay and have an Android version Adapted to multimedia playback with Kodi.
