The De-RISC project turns one year old: Congratulations!

De-RISC Project Logo

De-RISC Project is a project under the Horizon2020 program (EIC-FTI 869945. This program is the largest in terms of research in the European Union, with a budget of almost € 80.000M. The objective of this project is to ensure Europe's global competitiveness .

But for that to be possible, many key pieces make up the puzzle. H2020. One of them is De-RISC (Dependable Real-time Infrastructure for Safety-critical Computer), and whose objective is none other than to create a ready platform for the aerospace market based on ISA RISC-V...

Now De-RISC comes to their first anniversary. An exciting year of life in which they have been making their way into the field of Made in Europe technology. Demonstrating a great commitment on the part of all its partners to offer excellent results and important advances.

Un ambitious project which will guarantee access to European technology in critical applications, such as aerospace. An ISA that is on the rise lately, especially because of the advantages offered by its open (and royalty-free) license and also because of how modular it is, allowing the use of extensions for specific areas of application.

During this first year of intense work, the De-RISC project has been able to determine the requirements that define its technology: software architecture, SoC (System-on-Chip) architecture and the rest of the hardware platform. A first step to fully begin with the technical activities of the project in which much progress has been made in recent months.

Inside the side of the hardware, have already been able to develop the first version of the De-RISC MPSoC platform and the Monitoring Unit, integrating observability capabilities (Cycle Contention Stack, Request Duration Counter), and controllability (Maximum-Connection Control Unit).

From the side of significant progress is also seen, such as the first hypervisor prototype port XtratuM XNG y lithOS, the paravirtualized guest operating system that will run on the NOEL-V processor.

The validation activities of the platform, which will provide the necessary evidence to start marketing it.

In addition, De-RISC has had a extraordinary evolution, progressively gaining popularity in the market and as a member of RISC-V Internationalas well as HIPEAC. The consortium has also participated in events such as RISC-V Global Forum, HiPEAC Conference, and DSN.

Next objectives

De-RISC won't stop. If they have traveled a year it is not to stop. In the coming months, the project will continue with technical innovations and all the work that remains to be done, such as full implementation of virtualization, spatial prequalification tasks, shared resource content analysis to minimize core interference and other challenges.

Software tasks will also continue, including the RTEMS migration, an open source real-time operating system, as a guest operating system on top of the XtratuM XNG hypervisor. Software development tools will also be updated to support XNG and LithOS on the NOEL-V chip.

The future prospects for De-RISC are certainly promising. We are all impatient to see the first results in 2022, date marked in the roadmap to have the complete platform (HW / SW) for the space and aeronautical market completed ...
