Main news of Rescuezilla 2.4

In this new version of Rescuezilla 2.4 that is presented, it is highlighted that a change has been made to the base, because Ubuntu 21.10 was previously used, but due to compatibility issues it was decided to go back to Ubuntu 22.04.

Another change that stands out in this new version is that the utility partclone has been updated to version 0.3.20, this fixes the "unsupported feature" error for users of compressed BTRFS file systems (such as Fedora Workstation 33 and later). Removed old 0.2.43 partclone used to maximize Redo Backup legacy compatibility (modern partclone still provides good backwards compatibility)

In addition to this, the improvements of support for Btrfs partitions with compression enabled, as well as providing the ability to compress images using the bzip2 utility and adding the ability to configure a different network port for SSH.

On the other hand, it is highlighted that fixed Clonezilla EFI NVRAM script execution to better handle reboot on EFI systems.

Changed Firefox to use the PPA repository from the Mozilla team, because the new "snap" package is incompatible with the Rescuezilla build scripts

Moved the post-completion action to the in-progress page and updated many existing translations, but also added: Arabic, Catalan, Czech, Hungarian, and Slovak.

As for Known bugs in this new version:

  • When backing up a Windows drive, some users report the error “Windows is hibernating, refused to mount” or “Error: Read-only file system” and a failed backup. This is usually due to Windows' hibernation feature, with a widely used solution to select 'Restart' (not shutdown) from the Windows start menu before starting the Rescuezilla USB stick. But some users are reporting that even after doing a hard reset, the issue now persists, with the only solution for these users to disable hibernation altogether (which is definitely not a good solution).
