We have been talking about a new project for months that consisted of bringing Android, Google's operating system, to computers and laptops. This project was called Remix OS, a project that was supported by the company Jide Technology.
This company has informed yesterday that the project will be abandoned by the company in favor of more complex and interesting business projects for the company.
At this point Jide does not confirm the complete cancellation of the project but that they will dedicate themselves to business solutions, that is, they will possibly take Remix OS (or a fork of it) to companies, but not to end users.
This news has seated like a jug of cold water to the free community that wanted to have Android on their computers. Now such a thing will have to be done through the AndroidX86 project, an official project that makes it possible to install Android on a PC or on computers with similar platforms.
Remix OS, like Android, are based on the Gnu / Linux kernel. However, these two projects are supported by companies and not by a community, a situation that has made Remix OS no longer available for home users and it may also be what will one day leave us without smartphones or tablets, in case of Google deciding to remove support for the project.
Jide has not only reported the discontinuity of the project but has also reported that all the company's clients, those who bought devices with Remix OS, will have their money back, without the user having to do anything. This will not only affect the customers of the Jide online store but also will include users of the Kickstarter platform for crowdfunding financing.
Personally I was surprised by the news, but it is also one more example that supposedly "free" projects linked to companies do not usually have a good end and in many cases the end user is the one who pays the consequences. But surely that Remix OS will continue somehow Do not you think?
Android on the PC did not make much sense or use, like any system or mobile program, it is wasting the resources and ergonomics that a complete computer offers.
For those who expect an Android solution equal to or better than that offered by REMIX OS, I suggest PhoenixOS, you can download it for PC (X86) or Tablet (ARM) from the following link:
