Released the new version of Kali Linux 2019.3 with Kernel 5.2 and more

As part of the update program, a few years agoor the new version of Kali Linux 2019.3 was announced which is a Linux distribution designed to test systems for vulnerabilities, perform audits, analyze residual information and identify the consequences of malicious attacks.

Time includes one of the most comprehensive selection of tools for security professionals IT: from tools for testing web applications and penetration into wireless networks, to programs for reading data from RFID identification chips.

In addition to that NetHunter offers an environment for Android with which it is possible to verify the implementation of specific attacks for mobile devices, for example, emulating the operation of USB devices (BadUSB and HID keyboard, emulating a USB network adapter that can be used for MITM attacks or a USB keyboard that performs the replacement characters) and create rogue access points (MANA malicious access point).

NetHunter installs in an Android platform environment standard in the form of a chroot image running a specially adapted version of Kali Linux.

What's new in Kali Linux 2019.3

Like any other version of Kali Linux most of the changes included in the releases are package updates that make up the system, among them Updated versions of the Linux Kernel are included, which in this new release is Linux Kernel 5.2 (pre-shipped with kernel 4.19) and updated versions of Burp Suite, HostAPd-WPE, Hyperion, Kismet, and Nmap.

In Kali Linux 2019.3 help scripts added to simplify package search and its contents from the command line. When you enter the package name in the command shell, information about its purpose and the utilities included is now displayed.

In these sets are proposed for PINEBOOK and Gateworks Ventana. The kernel for Raspberry Pi was updated to version 4.19.66 in addition, support for RaspberryPi 4 was implemented and support for RaspberryPi Zero W was improved.

For the case of NetHunter the Android platform-based mobile environment with a selection of tools to test systems for vulnerabilities.

Inside the changes the introduction of the directory store.nethunter.com compatible with the F-Droid is observed with a selection of Android apps for security testing.

Of the other changes that stand out in the announcement of this new version of Kali Linux:

  • The amass utility is included to look up DNS names and determine hosts on the network, as well as improved support for ARM devices.
  • Firmware returned for Bluetooth chips. The kernel in assemblies for ODROID-C2 has been updated to version 3.16.72.
  • Added the official image of the Kali Linux container for the LXD system.
  • Support for RDV4 devices has been added to the proxmark3 client.

The base image has been reduced to 2,8 GB and now it is built on the basis of the Kali-linux-default suite, which includes a collection of utilities to verify security.

While the full build of 3,5GB in size, is offered in a separate image, which is based on the Kali-linux-large set, which also includes tools for rare and non-standard situations. In addition, a set of kali-linux-everything is proposed, including all available packages.

All original developments created as part of the distribution are distributed under the GPL and are available through the Git public repository. In this new edition, three versions have been prepared for download, with a size of 1, 2.8 and 3.5 GB.

Builds are available for x86, x86_64, ARM architectures (armhf and armel, Raspberry Pi, Banana Pi, ARM Chromebook, Odroid). In addition to the basic compilation with Gnome and the simplified version, options are offered with Xfce, KDE, MATE, LXDE and Enlightenment e17.
