Qt 6.4 now available, with improved support for WebAssembly, among others

Qt 6.4

Five months after the third update, The Qt Company announced the launch of Qt 6.4. Of the first thing they mention as a novelty, support for WebAssembly stands out, which means that WASM can be used in a more exhaustive way. The library includes other new features, but, by their nature, many of them are changes that we will notice more when using the things that work with which we will change the way we work.

What personally strikes me a bit is that the second novelty they mention is something with “iOS style”. It is clear that Apple knows how to design, but what is surprising is that it is recognized that they have been based on them to include something in a library like this. Below is a list with the most outstanding news from Qt 6.4.

Highlights of Qt 6.4

  • WebAssembly support.
  • New technology advance modules for Qt HTTP Server and Qt Quick 3D Physics.
  • Qt TextToSpeech has arrived in Qt 6.
  • The Qt HTTP Server module makes it easy to embed an HTTP server into your applications, with optional TLS support.
  • Qt Quick 3D Physics in tech preview form provides a high-level physics simulation API for interacting with rigid bodies and static meshes.
  • For those of you on the Qt Commercial version, Qt 6.4 also brings a new Qt VNC Server module.
  • Several APIs have been added to Qt Core.
  • Lots of Qt Quick improvements (this is where iOS is mentioned).
  • QSSlServer has been added to the Qt Network as a server that only communicates over TLS.
  • Qt Quick 3D offers preview baking lightmap support.
  • Improved shadow rendering for Qt Quick 3D.
  • The HTML5 filesystem access API for the Qt WebEngine, and smoother animations in Qt Quick.

Qt 6.4 has been announced just a few hours ago, which means anyone interested can use your code. And when I say "anyone interested," I'm primarily talking about developers. Over time, different Linux distributions will add new packages to their repositories, and so will developers who want to use this library.
