Early march we publish a news in which we echoed a landing. Or, well, rather an arrival that took place some time after the original landing, when Qt 5.15.3 became available. What happened with a year of delay is that this version became open source or open source, something that we have to say again today, May 11, but this time with Qt 5.15.4LTS protagonist.
As of today, Qt 5.15.4 LTS has also become open source, so anyone can use its code to add to their software, either in its original state or modify it to suit their needs. As at the third update point, the open source version of Qt 5.15.4 LTS has also come about a year after the non-open source version.
Qt 5.15.4 LTS open source comes a year after the original
Already in his day, in the release notes we could read that 5.15.4 was a "patch-like" release built on top of 5.15.3. As a patch type release, this version does not add any new features, but provides bug fixes and other improvements.
Qt 5.15.9 LTS was released last month, which is the last LTS release of 5.15 and we'll see it become open source next year. The latest version is Qt 6.3, is open source and arrived in April.
Right now only distributions with special repositories such as KDE neon or Rolling Releases are using 5.15.3, but it is expected that in these cases 5.15.4 LTS will be used in the coming weeks. The adoption of Qt6 will take even longer to become a trend or “mainstream”, and the Rolling Release distributions will probably be the first to dare to use it, either after an update or after a zero installation.
