Debian 8 is out now, and as expected, updates are also beginning to arrive to those Linux distributions that are based on the project. And an example of this is that of Q4OS 1.2 "Orion", the new version of this distro that seeks to emulate as much as possible the look of Windows XP in order to become a reference for those who seek to start walking their way on this platform.
We talk about Q4OS it has been a long time ago, also highlighting its excellent capacity to be installed on computers with modest hardware, to the point that it can be used on computers with Pentium 4 and 256 MB of RAM. Many are the improvements that have come in this update, several on account of Debian 8 "Jessie" and many others thanks to the update of Trinity, the excellent desktop environment based on KDE 3.5, to its version R14.
Q4OS 1.2 "Orion" brings some new tools, such as «Desktop Profiles», which allows us to adapt the appearance and tools of our equipment to different uses (Educational, Work, Home, etc.), a new installation tool that facilitates the addition or elimination of our software equipment developed by third parties, and a new welcome screen that offers direct access to various configuration tools, so that newcomers can immediately start reaching and configuring their equipment.
In addition, it is interesting that although it is a distro based on KDE 3.5, it can be very easily installed other desktop environments, such as XFCE or LXDE, or even switch to the newer KDE 4.x, all thanks to the use of scripts. installation. Unfortunately there is no Live CD available, but for everything mentioned so far it is really worth trying Q4OS 1.2, a distro that can also compete without problems among the lightest ones (its installation ISO occupies 334 MB).
