Purism prepares Librem 5 dev kits, phone could arrive in April

Just days before the end of the year holidays, Purism announced that they have finished preparing the development kits for their Librem 5 Linux mobile and will be shipped to all of its founders soon.

Based on the powerful new 8-bit i.MX 64M ARM chip, Librem 5 development kits will reach all founders who have supported the initiative, right now Purism needs all the support of the community to continue and accelerate the development of this Linux phone with a focus on privacy and security.

Librem 5 could be released in April 2019

Purism reports that its privacy and security focused mobile phone Librem 5 is still on track for an April 2019 launch, after the company delayed the January 2019 launch due to bugs in development chips. But they still need all the help from the community to check both hardware and software.

The Librem 5 will be the first phone focused on privacy and security, and hopefully it will also be the first successful phone to port the Linux operating system. Purism believes that 2019 will be the year of Linux phones, so if you are interested, join one of their channels and help with development.

Since we are in the Christmas season, Purism has prepared a special offer for those who want to found their initiative and acquire a Librem 5 as soon as possible. Their “It's a Secure Life” package gives you a laptop and mobile for only $ 599 dollars, this price will increase to $ 699 on January 7, 2019.
