postmarketOS 21.12 Service Pack 3 arrives with PinePhone keyboard support

postmarket OS 21.12 SP 3

It's been a month and a day today since will launch the previous version of the operating system that this project develops. At that time we could say that it was a major release, because, despite being only a "Service Pack", that is, a point update, it included a new version of Phosh. A few hours ago, the project launched postmarket OS 21.12 Service Pack 3, and this time we can't say it's that important unless you're using a PinePhone or the old rocker Nokia N900.

In postmarketOS 21.12 Service Pack 3 several kernels have been updated, including 5.15.25 for the N900. In addition, among the novelties we also read that the necessary driver has been included to be able to use the physical keyboard of the PinePhone. Apart from that, the rest of the outstanding novelties are few, and you have them in the following list.

Postmarket highlightsOS 21.12 Service Pack 3

  • Dino ~0.3 updated to the latest version in @mimi89999's feature/handy branch, with support for an adaptive UI.
  • Squeekboard 1.16.0, with many new language translations.
  • Portfolio updated to 0.9.3, with support for mounting/managing external drives. Useful for using usb drives with a device attached, or SD cards in devices that support them.
  • Fixed alarms not waking up devices from sleep, the (waked) daemon responsible for scheduling the wake event was not set to start by default.
  • SDM845 Linux kernel updated to 5.16.12., MSM8996 updated to 5.16.12, and N900 updated to version 5.15.25.
  • The PinePhone keyboard kernel driver is now built as a module.

New images are available in the project download page, from where you can also download images of the Edge version (unstable or unstable). Existing users will receive all new packages automatically as an update from the same operating system.
