After Bookworm, Debian 13 will be codenamed Trixie. Bullseye's first freeze, January 12

Debian 13 Trixie

Debian is the father of some operating systems and the grandfather of many others. The most popular son is Ubuntu, and among his grandsons we have some like Linux Mint or elementary OS. But its descendants are somewhat more unruly, and for example Ubuntu releases a new version of its system every six months, not like Debian that takes it more easy on that and some other things. Where he does not take it so calmly is in revealing the names, and we already know which one he will use Debian 13.

The current stable release, Debian 10, is codenamed Buster, but they are already developing Bullseye. It was already known that the next version, Debian 12, would be called Bookworm, and for a few hours we have known that Debian 13 will carry the code name of Trixie. And if anyone is wondering why I have used an image like the one at the top of this article, it is probably because they do not know a piece of information.

Debian 13 Trixie will still be a long time coming

Since its inception, Debian has used toy story names for your operating systems. The current Buster is the dog, Bullseye is the horse, Bookworm is the worm with glasses and Trixie is the one you see in the picture. The unstable branch is named Sid, who used to destroy the toys. The first version was called Buzz, the famous astronaut whose most famous phrase is "to infinity and beyond."

But Trixie's name is not the only novelty that Has mentioned the Debian project in the last few hours. As of January 12, 2021, the transition to Debian 11 will begin Bullseye, with the most essential freezes. From that day on, no major changes will be made. The medium or soft freezing will take place on February 12 and, a month later, on March 13, the final freezing will occur.

As usual, the project has not mentioned when the official Bullseye landing will occur. You know: these dates for Debian are "when ready". Yes, Bookworm is expected to arrive in 2023 and Trixie in 2025.
