Portal 2: Desolation looks more than good…

Gate 2: Desolation

Portal 2 is a video game from Valve that mixed the classic logic of conventional first-person shooter titles, and an interesting dynamic in which the protagonist can teleport to overcome some obstacles and achieve the objectives. Now, the community has created what will be the next thing in this universe, called Gate 2: Desolation.

This community work has revised the charts, and the truth is that the images that have been published look quite good. Valve itself has not been involved in it, but it is a work as a tribute that fans of this series of games have wanted to do.

The development team involved in Portal 2: Desolation has worked very hard with the Source graphics engine (the one that has given life to several Valve games, such as Hal Life), and now they have replaced the rendering and lighting pipeline to improve it. In this way they have solved some problems with the way in which Source treated these aspects initially.

The new physical rendering of Portal 2: Desolation achieves lighting in real time, more flexibility, and dynamic. For example, lights can move, change color or intensity, allowing scenes to be rendered much more accurately.

Of course, they have also been updated reflections of the scenes, the shadows, and have rebuilt some other parts of Portal 2 to improve fidelity. On the other hand, the work has not only focused there, but it is a fairly ambitious project that goes even further. Therefore, if you were a fan of the Valve saga, Portal 2: Desolation is going to enchant you. The bad new? Well, it's still in the middle of its development, so you'll have to wait a bit to try it...
