Pluto TV lands in Spain, included in the Linux of your Raspberry Pi

Pluto TV

It was announced a while ago, and it is here. Although it was expected for next Monday, October 26, it has been working, at least, since last Friday. We are talking about Pluto TV, which is a platform for free television channels that has long been available on American soil, including in southern countries. Now we also have it available in Spain, and it is an alternative that is worth considering.

At this point I debate between writing according to official information or giving my personal impression. What I'm going to do is the second, and give my point of view on what Pluto TV is. For starters, it's a video platform that we can access online, and it is available as an app for different platforms (such as Android, iOS and some Smart TVs) and also via the web, from this link.

Pluto TV, free TV channels with a different touch ...

... or similar, depending on how you look at it. After spending some time testing it, my impression is that many of the channels that Pluto TV offers are similar to some that we see on DTT, such as Paramount. Namely, has cinema channels, such as Cinema, Action Cinema, Scifi, Thrillers, Romantic Cinema, Drama Cinema and Comedy Cinema, and in all of them they emit films like the ones we see in Paramount: some are more modern, popular and good and others are older, classic or even somewhat bad.

In total, right now it has more than 40 channels divided into its sections Movies, Series, MTV on Pluto, Entertainment, Comedy, Crime and Mystery, Lifestyle, Sports (nothing important, of course) and children. All the channels are their own, and they promise that they will increase their number in the coming months. As an example of what they broadcast, we have The Pet Collective, which are animal videos like those shared on social networks one after another.

And why is it free? For the same reason that those of DTT are: they broadcast advertising and it is this who pays them. At the moment, most of the ads are from their own channels, and they probably put them so that we get used to it or understand that there will be cuts in the reproduction of the content.

Available from any browser

As it is not protected content, we can see it in any web browser. I have even tested it in the lazy browser of an LG TV and it works, but a little slow due to its limitations. I mention this because works flawlessly on a Raspberry Pi, where we cannot see DRM content unless we do some trick, like this. The recommended browser in this case is Chromium for a resource consumption issue; Chromium's ARM version is lighter than Firefox's.

In short, it is basically like being able to access more channels than the normal DTT channels, with the difference that we will need to see them from a web browser. Do you think it's worth it? I, considering that It's free, I think if.

And is it worth downloading their app, on Android for example and transferring it to the Chromecast to be able to watch it on TV?

I must say that Pluto TV is an excellent platform, I find it quite useful as well as other similar applications (vix, tubi) that complement each other to help me get rid of some decoders from the company that gives me Internet, telephone and television service.

Well, I realized that in terms of programming Pluto TV offers a lot of content that my relatives like, in addition to that he also encourages me to try the Mi box and be delighted.

Personally, I think that the platform is for people from the generation of the 90's and below, since as for the new generations, they will hardly be able to find content on the platform with which they can entertain themselves.
