Plasma Mobile Gear 21.08 introduces improvements to the Shell and applications for mobiles and tablets

Plasma Mobile Gear 21.08

KDE is on more and more devices. The last to benefit from your ideas is the Steam deck, but for a little longer it has been available on mobile phones and tablets. The KDE software for these types of devices receives updates similar to the desktop, and a few hours ago have thrown Plasma Mobile Gear 21.08. "Gear" is the new name for the KDE application suite, although the Shell is also listed here.

Plasma Mobile Gear 21.08 has arrived just over a month after Plasma Mobile 21.07, and has done it to improve things in an environment that currently is in beta phase. And it is not for less: at least in the PineTab + Arch Linux, the icons are a bit on their own, duplicates appear and some widgets appear continuously after eliminating them.

Highlights of Plasma Mobile Gear 21.08

  • Many bugs in KWin that affected the virtual keyboard have been fixed and it is now more reliable. It is true that now everything is more fluid, but the widgets continue to appear after a restart and the duplicates in the application drawer do not go away.
  • Improved the code for the quick settings of the top panel (but the snapshot tool still captures the top panel ...).
  • The clock now allows you to configure countdowns in a loop, among other improvements.
  • The weather app has improved the code.
  • Kasts has received minor improvements and can now change the area where podcasts are downloaded.
  • Spacebar, the SMS app, now shows when a message has failed.

Unlike desktop software, "Mobile" is more difficult to install, so it is worth waiting for the update to arrive. In Arch Linux just type sudo pacman -Syu in the terminal. To ensure that all changes are made correctly, it is recommended to restart the device.
