Peppermint 6, an increasingly minty distro

peppermint 6

Mayo has unfortunately not given us a new version of the most famous minty distro, but it has given us a small minty sample. At the end of this month we knew Peppermint 6, a Gnu / Linux distribution quite popular due to the few resources that the computer uses.

In essence, the operation of Peppermint is similar to Chrome OS so it does not need many resources and if we add to this Lxde, Ubuntu 14.04 and other types of light software, the result is more than spectacular. But the important thing about Peppermint 6 is not this but the changes you have made.

Peppermint 6 includes the 3.16 kernel and an updated graphics stack. It is based on Ubuntu 14.04 but there are several modifications and points towards Ubuntu 14.02, something already significant. But Ubuntu is not Peppermint 6's system of choice but Linux Mint. Thus, the file manager will be Nemo and not Nautilus. The software manager will be Mintupdate and not the Ubuntu update manager and Mintstick will be by default in Peppermint 6.

Peppermint 6 will include MintUpdate and Shakura by default

The terminal in this new version will be replaced by Sakura. Several other programs will be replaced, not only LXTerminal, among the best known will be VLC, which will be the default program for audio and video or EOG Image Viewer. Peppermix will be the new environment that is in Peppermint 6, a new environment that includes a desktop theme, icons, wallpapers, etc ... This environment will have a dark version like the rest of the popular themes.

Peppermint is a fairly popular distribution in some continents such as Africa, hence this new version is so important and so popular. However, this can only be known by testing the distribution yourself since the variety of hardware that exists right now is enormous. So if you have an old computer or you just want to test it in a virtual machine, I recommend this page where you can find the disk images to install it. Of course it is not Linux Mint but something menthol does have, don't you think?
