It has been in development for over three months, but Parrot Security has had the pleasure of announce el Parrot 4.6 release, a new version of its Linux-based operating system that serves to test security. The tool is supposedly ethical hacking, which means that its raison d'être is to test the security of certain software to see if it is vulnerable to attack by malicious users.
One of the most important news is that now also is available with KDE graphical environment, an environment that, from what I read daily, I think is gaining popularity over time. The Parrot team thinks so, who says that «we love MATE, but we've heard great things about KDE and decided that we could test and support two graphical environments. We listen to you and it is finally here. A security edition that features the KDE Plasma graphical environment«.
Parrot 4.6 is in MATE and KDE Plasma environments
Among the rest of the novelties that arrive with Parrot 4.6 we have:
- Support for https-to-http downloads for the APT package manager, which is now configured to serve signed index files over the secure HTTPS protocol by default.
- OpenNIC support on Anonsurf to allow users to switch from system DNS servers to OpenNIC DNS resolvers.
- Improved OpenVPN support.
- Support for Snap packages has been improved.
- The AppArmor and FireJail profiles have been updated.
- Improved support for Nvidia GPU drivers, especially in Quadro series.
- Unsurprisingly, this release also includes bug fixes and refinements to make everything work better.
Users who are on an older version can update with the command:
sudo parrot-upgrade
