OpenXR runtime "Monado" passes compliance tests

OpenXR

This is a big milestone for Monado OpenXR runtime, the famous open source project and the first runtime of its kind for GNU / Linux. The reason for this milestone is that now, thanks to Collabora's efforts, it has been announced that it has passed the compliance tests.

Lately Collabora is very active in the open source world, with big projects like the ones you have on your hands in collaboration with Valve engineers for things like Steam Linux Runtime Container, along with what they are doing also in the Linux kernel for the whole support issue, to what to include Monado.

Remember that OpenXR is the open standard for Augmented Reality (AR), for Virtual Reality (VR), and Mixed Reality (RM) collectively known as XR (eXtended Reality).

As reported from Collabora, Monado is the first OpenXR runtime for GNU / Linux, and its goal is to implement an open source XR ecosystem to provide the building blocks on which other device developers can build on to support GNU / Linux platforms.

With that said, the news is that Monado now conforms to the test suite provided by The Khronos Group for OpenGL and Vulkan. However, you have to be patient, since it is not an official implementation as it has not passed the complete process. The reason is that they are currently testing internally until it is fully ready.

Currently they have also added support for Android.

If you like XR, Monado is going to be extremely important if you want to use gadgets from this field on your Linux distro. In addition, the rapid performance of The Khronos Group makes OpenXR available soon for you many developers have it on time and add support from the beginning officially.

For the moment, Valve and its SteamVR They are backing this project, and so have Microsoft and Facebook (Oculus). The entire extended reality industry seems to be quite committed to it, so the project looks very good for the near future.
