openSUSE Leap 15 Linux is now available for Raspberry Pi and other ARM devices

Those responsible for the openSUSE project announced today the immediate availability of openSUSE Leap 15 for many ARMv7 and AArch64 devices (ARM64) including the popular Raspberry Pi. 

Released last month, openSUSE Leap 15 is based on the SUSE Linux Enterprise 15 series and brings with it a large number of features and improvements over the previous version. These include a new tool to partition the disk from the installer, the ability to migrate from openSUSE Leap 15 to SUSE Linux Enterprise (SLE) 15 and integration with the Kopano open source groupware suite. 

openSUSE Leap 15 also comes with Firewalld such as its new firewall management tool, a new design that is more aligned with SUSE's enterprise suite, new “server” and “transaction server” roles that provide read-only root and transaction updates for the file system , this among many other things. 

Today openSUSE Leap 15 has been officially released for ARM64 and ARMv7 devices like Raspberry Pi, BeagleBoard, Arndale Board, CuBox-i and OlinuXino. 

ARM devices supported by openSUSE

Those responsible for the OpenSUSE project published a list of ARM devices supported by the openSUSE operating system. Raspberry Pi 3, Pine64, ThunderX, APM Mustang, AMD Seattle, and HP Moonshot m400 are included in AArch64 architecture devices. Cubie Board, Cubie Board 2, Cubietruck, Arndale Board, Banana Pi, BeagleBoard-xM, CuBox, BeagleBone, BeagleBone Black, and Calxeda Highbank for ARMv7 architecture. 

Additionally, supported ARMv7 devices include A10-OLinuXino-LIME, A13-OLinuXino, A20-OLinuXino-LIME, A20-OLinuXino-LIME2, A20-OLinuXino-MICRO, PandaBoard, Samsung Chromebook, DE0-Nano-SoC, Versatile Express, and SABER Lite. The ARMv6 Raspberry Pi 1 device is supported as well.
