Since Chat GPT started to catch on, the OpenAI chatbot is everywhere. We find it in search engines like Bing or You.com, in bots, in Linux we have it in Bavarder (link to Flatub) and there are even some for Telegram, in extensions for Visual Studio Code and also in services like Perplexity. There are also a lot of options in the different mobile app stores, and their developers are earning thousands of euros.
Logic told us that ChatGPT should exist as an official mobile application, but it was not until yesterday May 18 that OpenAI announced its arrival at the iOS App Store. At the moment it can only be downloaded in the US, so I have not been able to check if it can also be downloaded for the iPad, even if it is the extended version of the iPhone. Most iPhone apps can be installed and used this way on the iPad, but there are also others, like WhatsApp, that can't.
ChatGPT for mobile
About its operation and reading the official note, what ChatGPT for mobile offers is same as web version, but it will open in its own app that works better than a webapp that depends on the web browser. Like the official version, it is free, it is in English, although the chatbot can respond in Spanish, it synchronizes the history if it is activated, and does not display advertising. Those of the Plus version can now access GPT-4.
As we have mentioned, initially it is only for iOS if the App Store is configured to use the US store, it should be able to be used on the iPad using the extended version and coming soon to Google Play for Android devices.
OpenAI says it will reach more countries in the coming weeks, but does not give any timeframe for when it will leave the US. In the meantime, you can always try LightIA, a chatbot created by a Spanish company that allows you to chat with ChatGPT from WhatsApp.
