Onionshare, a private option to share files safely

Currently the file sizes are very large and the Internet speed is not as fast, at least for users who do not have fiber. To solve this, many users use cloud hard drives that allow to accelerate the download of files because it is uploaded to a server and not to a personal computer.

Within this type of need there is Mozilla's Send program that allows us upload large files to your servers and make it public for anyone to access. There are also services like Transferwise that offer the same thing, but it is a private company that is behind this software. A third option would be Onionshare. Onionshare is a program of the TOR Project and its function is to offer the same but in an anonymous and secure way, keeping the philosophy of your project within this software. OnionShare allows us to upload large files or file packages to a virtual network hosted within our team and to be able to export it via anonymous link. By using onion layer technology, any intruder will not be able to access our equipment through this program or intercept the packages that we upload or transfer.

Onionshare is a very interesting free tool for those who care about their privacy. We can install this program in any distribution, for this we just have to go to the Onionshare wiki and follow the installation steps. When we have it installed, its operation is simple. We execute it and the following screen will appear:

Onionshare main screen

In it we upload the files that we want to transfer or publish. After uploading and processing files, Onionshare will post a link that we can post or pass on to our contacts that we want them to receive that data. This link will be open for a few hours so that it does not become an open door for our team.

Onionshare is an interesting and very safe option. If you find that it is very difficult for your team to obtain, the alternative would be Send and your add-on for firefox. Although personally I recommend using Onionshare.
