OBS Studio 29.1 now supports fragmented MP4/MOV recording

NOTE Studio 29.1

Four months since the launch of the last version of this software that is chosen by many to record their desktop screen under Wayland. It's capable of much more than that, but since SimpleScreenRecorder and other Linux desktop recording tools only work on X11, we had to look for alternatives, and this one is a good one. And more than it is after the launch of NOTE Studio 29.1, an update of the medians.

The list of new features is long, but more than a third of it remains in the bug fixes section. Among the new functions, it stands out that it has been added support for streaming with AV1/HEVC via improved RTMP on platforms like YouTube. In fact, at the moment only the video service owned by Google and in beta form works. They report that HDR has not yet been implemented for this.

Other new features in OBS Studio 29.1

Among the rest of the novelties, everything is added, such as support for multiple audio tracks in the Simple recording output (pkv), a setting to record in MP4 or MOV formats fragmented, which offers greater compatibility than MKV and provides similar results, surround sound support for AJA capture cards, ProRes 4444 (XQ) on macOS, or lossless audio recording in formats such as FLAC.

About the function of fragmented recording, to know what they mean by this, just go to Settings / Output, enter the Recording section and choose the MP4 or MOV format. Below it puts a message that, in case there are cuts, the video cannot be recovered. Well, in theory, this changes with OBS 29.1.

OBS Studio has been announced a few hours ago, yesterday in the Iberian Peninsula, and can now be downloaded for all supported systems. Or partly, since there is a DEB package available, but not an RPM one, for example. What can be downloaded is its source code or use its flatpack version.
