Now available Plasma 5.9.1, the first maintenance version of Plasma 5.9

plasma 5.9

The latest version of KDE Plasma was released a week ago. In this case we are talking about Plasma 5.9. This new version incorporated new features and greater support for the Wayland graphical server. And although many distributions do not have this version of Plasma yet, the KDE development team has already released a maintenance version.

Plasma 5.9.1 is the new version of this desktop that fixes many bugs that have been found on the desktop and that will substantially improve the performance of Plasma on our computers.

The number of bugs fixed is small, there is talk of 60 bugs fixed, but they are bugs that affect important programs such as Plasma Networkmanager, Oxygen, Discover, or Plasma Add-ons, among others.

Plasma 5.9.1 is the first maintenance release of the popular KDE Plasma desktop

Plasma 5.9.1 is now available for download and its installation is recommended instead of Plasma 5.9. However, with the exception of rolling release distributions, this version will not reach many Gnu / Linux distributions. The reason is not the quality of the version but the fact that within 7 days we will know Plasma 5.9.2, a new version that will improve the current one and therefore the most suitable for use in production equipment.

On February 28th, Plasma 5.9.3 will be released and almost a month later, Plasma 5.9.4 will arrive. The fifth maintenance release will arrive on April 25, a release that will be the last maintenance release before the release of Plasma 5.10 version, which will occur in May 2017.

Plasma 5.9.4 is possibly the version that reaches more users thanks to the official repositories of non-rolling release distributions, although everything will depend on the personal choice of the developer team. In any case, it is recommended always opt for the latest version as it is a more stable and secure version for production teams, hence we recommend updating if you already have Plasma 5.9.1 in your distribution.
